European salt community meets in Germany for EUsalt Annual Events
Berchtesgaden (Germany), 9 June 2022
From 7-9 June, the European Salt Producers’ Association (EUsalt) held its Annual Events in Berchtesgaden, Germany. It was a very successful edition with about 100 industry executives and experts from member companies as well as external participants attending the events.
“After more than two years of online meetings, it is amazing to gather again in person in such a beautiful venue to reconnect and discuss the future of our sector”, commented Dr Urs Ch. Hofmeier (EUsalt President). He continued: “The past days were filled with fruitful discussions and exchanges – these bring inspiration and enthusiasm to move forward and ensure a competitive, resilient and sustainable European salt producing industry”.
The events were hosted by the EUsalt member company Südwestdeutsche Salzwerke AG which is deeply rooted in the region Berchtesgaden. “It’s a pleasure for us to welcome the EUsalt community in Berchtesgaden, a place of importance for Germany’s salt history with its over 500-year old salt mine”, mentioned Ulrich Fluck (EUsalt Board member and Südwestdeutsche Salzwerke AG CEO).
The General Assembly on Wednesday 8 June was followed by an open conference on key subjects for the salt industry and its stakeholders such as nutrition, food safety, energy transition, sustainability, innovation and occupational health and safety. Speakers included representatives from the academia, industry and EU institutions.
One of the highlights of the EUsalt conference was the EUsalt Safety Award winner announcement. The EUsalt Safety Award has been organised since 2016 and aims to reward EUsalt members that show excellence in the area of health and safety at work. Safety experts, EUsalt Board members and conference participants decided via voting to grant this year’s award to Compass Minerals for its project ‘Interactive firefighting training’. Congratulations to Compass Minerals and to all the contenders.
